War with Iran not acceptable

War with Iran is not inevitable, imminent, or acceptable should Israel choose to start it. The most senior defense officials in the U.S. and Israel have publicly stated their common judgment is Iran is “not trying to develop a nuclear weapon.” Nevertheless, Iran has been demonized by Congress, the media and the president, who has left no option “off the table” to deal with the “threat” from Iran. Veterans For Peace is opposed to all nuclear weapons. We oppose the hundreds of nuclear weapons that Israel has and we oppose Israel’s refusal to sign the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to admit U.N. inspectors. We oppose the thousands of nuclear warheads in the U.S., Russia, U.K., China, France — as well as those of Israel, North Korea, India and Pakistan who remain outside the NPT. We believe the best way to deter Iran from deciding to develop nuclear weapons is to stop threatening them into believing that they need them. As veterans, we know from personal experience that countless innocent people die and are injured in war. We feel conscience-bound to say that we strongly oppose another illegal, immoral “war of choice.” Carroll Nast, Colfax
