Weimar Hills Cagers Head To Crescent City TOC

Nevada County Athletic League Champions Are 21-4
A league championship banner in hand, the Weimar Hills 8th grade boys basketball team will carry the hopes of the foothills into this weekend’s 43rd renewal of the Crescent City Jaycees’ Tournament of Champions. The Warriors, owners of a 21-4 record and champions of the Nevada County Athletic League, will become the sixth Weimar Hills squad to compete in the prestigious Del Norte County tournament that will draw 56 teams playing in seven divisions. Weimar Hills will be sending a boys team to the invitational tournament for the sixth time since 2002. In 2002, the Warriors, led by Ari Iventosch, Russell Mooney and Kevin Kleppe, finished third in the tourney’s AAA division before the 2004 team, keyed by Scott Krizman and Joel Iventosch, took second in the AA division. In 2006, the Warriors, led by Justin Witt and Kyle Greer placed, fourth while the 2007 Warriors who included Luke Beninga and Brett Fowler, placed fifth. Weimar Hills finally broke through to win its first Crescent City title banner in 2009 led by Ryan Glazner, Matt Larson, Will Buell, Devon Loomis and Paul Ramseth, many of the same faces who played pivotal roles in this season’s Colfax High team that won the Pioneer Valley League JV championship. This season’s Colfax High frosh team, which included Jordan Balser, Jack Baldoni, Michael Wilson and Cole Joyce participated last season and won consolation honors in the AA division. This season Weimar Hills has drawn a No. 2 seed in the AA division. The Warriors have been led in scoring by the likes of Marcus Jackson,Pat Beninga, Ray Henry, Logan Hurst and Carrick Hoffart. Providing more punch for Weimar Hills has been guards Jake Breeler, Mason Lewis, Jake Buol, Alex Tobiasz, Ryan Hallman and Chris Lange while more production inside has come from John Kirwan, Dylan Starder, Scott Irons, and Jeremy Kabodi. Weimar Hills will open against Fortuna (20-3) at 8:30 p.m. Friday night. In other first round AA games, Ferndale meets Middletown, Barrendos of Red Bluff clashes with Pacific Union of Eureka and North Bend of Coos Bay, Oregon tangles with Terrace of Lakeport.
