'What to Wear' opens in downtown Colfax
By: LindaLou Haines
Two Colfax residents have just opened a new retail store, What to Wear Consignment Clothing, located at 9 Main St., Colfax. Owners Lisa Brewer and Christy Reed have had retail experience, but are new at owning a business. By the way, “consignment” means “gently used or new” clothing and accessories. The store actually acts as the agent for the owner who wants to sell her clothing items. Lisa said the store will build its reputation on being “customer friendly.” Customers have already been very supportive and business has been good. What to Wear will be open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. I checked out the store last week and found it attractively arranged and inviting. So, now it’s your turn. Are you a new business in the Colfax area? Or an existing business with a new service or other new element to your business? Let me know. And, to all the Colfax area businesses, I have these questions. What are you doing to promote your own business? Are you complaining about the national economic downturn or the local business climate? What are you doing to help local businesses and the business climate of Colfax? Years ago when I started a business, a friend told me about Guerrilla Advertising by Jay Conrad Levinson. It is a concept of marketing a small business at no or low cost using “unconventional marketing tactics.” Now, here’s a local, very low cost marketing opportunity that comes up periodically. Our Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce (346-8888) sponsors mixers, which are opportunities for business owners to meet in a social environment that is relaxed and fun. A minimal cost gets you in the door and access to other businesses, wonderful refreshments and best of all, an opportunity to talk informally about your business. Bring your business cards, brochures or other printed materials and hand them out to everyone you talk with. Then, collect their business cards, so you know who is doing what in town and can refer friends to them as well as use their services. The next chamber mixer will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 18 at the Colfax Healing Center Arts Therapeutic Massage & Chiropractic Care, 233 S. Auburn St., Suite 255. Owner, massage therapist and Colfax resident Audrey Powell will act as co-host for the mixer along with Sierra Junction Colfax Realty (Suite 110 in the same building). Write me with news of your new business or if you have something new going on in your existing business. I can be reached at email@example.com.
