State Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, makes a victory announcement Monday at his election headquarters in Roseville – almost a month after the Nov. 4 election.

ROSEVILLE – In front by almost 1,800 votes with all but El Dorado County certifying Nov. 4 election results, 4th congressional district Republican candidate Tom McClintock held a victory press conference Monday.

Democratic Party candidate Charlie Brown has polled 183,840 votes to the GOP candidate’s 185,615 – a 1,775- vote difference.

“The liberal wave that swept over American lapped at the edges of this district but it was here in the 4th District of California that the wave was turned back,” McClintock said. “When the final votes were counted, the people of the 4th congressional district made a decision to stand on the traditional American principles of individual freedom and limited government – and it will be my distinct honor to carry that message to the 111th Congress of the United States.”

Brown issued a statement Monday saying he “remains committed to ensuring a fair and accurate count where every voice is heard and will be evaluating the results over the next 24 to 48 hours to determine if any additional action is warranted on the part of our campaign.”

The difference between the two candidates is just less than half of a percentage point. A recount is possible, although McClintock used two state elections as benchmarks against extending the count – where candidates were separated by fewer votes and fewer percentage points that the 4th District election but were not moving forward with recounts.

Speaking at Roseville campaign headquarters to an audience of supporters flanked by regional media representatives, McClintock made a formal statement of victory. Counts over the past three weeks have increased his lead by more than 1,000 votes over election-night totals..

The margin of victory puts the possibility of a recount changing the District 4 outcome well outside the realm of possibility, he had said in announcing the press conference.

McClintock made his remarks at his Eureka Road campaign headquarters, which are now being used as McClintock’s congressional transition office.

McClintock, who currently represents Ventura County in the state Senate, lives in Elk Grove but said his wife, Lori, has been looking at homes in the district in Rocklin and Roseville. During freshman orientation two weeks ago in Washington, D.C. – which both candidates attended – McClintock said he worked with current U.S. Rep. John Doolittle’s staff on transition details.

Brown, a retired Air Force lieutenant-colonel from Roseville, had narrowly lost to Doolittle, R-Roseville, two years ago.

McClintock said two factors – a “brutal” primary against Doug Ose and the liberal “tidal wave” – accounted for the close election race.

The press conference drew several dozen supporters, including a group of Republicans from Lassen County, where McClintock gained his strongest support, polling 62.9 percent of the vote.

Hallelujah Junction’s Alan Schumacher was part of the Lassen County group. He’s been a McClintock supporter since the early 1990s.

“Tom stands for everything good and right in this country,” Schumacher said.

Bonnie Williams, a McClintock campaign volunteer from Fair Oaks, said her candidate should take a message of fiscal responsibility to Washington that will help the nation.

“Things wouldn’t be the way they are if the government in California would have listened to him,” Williams said.

County’s have until Dec. 2 to complete their canvas. Once that is done, candidates have five days to ask each of nine counties in the district for a recount, which they must pay for themselves.

Wow, you really think Lieutenant Colonal Charlie Brown, a decorated veteran of a major war and a hero to billions, and friend to puppies and small children, will give up without an Al Gore fight ?

and if Lieutenant Colonal Charlie Brown, does give up the seat, will he hang around and talk about global warming endlessly ?

also, will we read about his son being arrested for drugs ?

found speeding at over 100mph in a Prius ?

will he buy a 24,000 square foot house and use more energy than half the zip code too ?

will he produce a movie about his experience at being cheated out of an election ?

will he get an Oscar ?

even a Nobel prize too ?

"Traditional principles"? What would a carpetbagger from L.A. know about morals in Auburn? Hey commonsense... make sure you eat before you get high.

Is not McClintock being politically dishonest or amnesiac if he didn't mention the real reasons he managed to cadge a tie score on this election?

Massive amounts of out of district and out of state funding, canvassing, and support, by a small group of religious fundamentalists acting in the same capacity as an American Taliban- bent on taking away a civil government right to enter in to a civil contract between 2 mature adults, based on the beliefs of said extremist religious fundamentalists (and the candidate, himself ) that they are morally superior because of their religious beliefs, and therefore the civil government of the state of California MUST encode those peculiar religious sacraments into their legal code ? Because those 2 adults have been deemed immoral by his political followers, because they are not the "proper" religion?

This makes a mockery of any statement he could come up with equating his " "success " as a "victory" for less government interference, regulation, and individual freedom.

It is an American Tragedy.

An un- Constitutional.

Government shall make no laws respecting the establishment of a state religion......

This person is not a legitimate Congressional representative, and never will be, irregardless of any final vote count, because of how he views other human beings created by God, as being expendable, inferior, and less worthy than his wealthy benefactors of basic human civil rights.

Birchbricker:

WHy must you impugn Senator McClintock that way ?

or should I say, Congressman-elect McCalintock

did I mention Charlie Brown getting money/support from Codepink, International Answer (a communist group dedicated to commuist rule throughout the world), SF liberal and Hollywood liberal money ?

and about Brown's morals - you think the average Auburnite would support a soldier being hanged in effigy like Brown did, in uniform ?

and do you consider Hillary Clinton a carpetbagger for running for Senate and not living in the district ?

then what do you call 0bama, who will not tell the American people where he was born ?

he tells us he was born in Hawaii, no hospital, doctor, midwife, etc?

and his "certificate of birth" is not from his birth year

it is printed on a form dated 2001 - so who is the carpetbagger ?

honestly, we have NEVER had a president who would not divulge the place of his birth so at least a monument could be built

where will the 0bama placque be placed ?

it won't be a log cabin, it won't be a hospital

oh wait, I know where it will go

on TV, since the media conviced enough sheep to vote for him

what without the ACORN votes and all

and to Canyonrat:

just because you call it a tie score does not make it one, get over it

McClintock won - Brown lost

as far as out of state fundraising - again, see 0bama, Barack Hussein

perhaps you missed the swing thru Europe and the middle east ?

perhaps the fundraisers and cold-callers from Gaza

just saying that makes me want to laugh - Hamas helped elect the next president

my, how the world must think we are stupid

and not just that, but Hamas, if you recall - is a bunch of relgiious extremists

albeit VIOLENT religious extremists

ok, then you start ranting about "gay marriage" as if it is a civil right?

marriage is not a right - it is a ceremony, and there are incentives for marriage

so the population can grow from within (meaning, from birth) instead of without (meaning immigration)

so go tell the gays to find a way to get pregnant and we're fine, um - kayyyy ?

and again, for the less mentally capapble in the crowd

"marriage" ceremonies have been performed before modern religions

and in areas without an established religion of any kind

so get off the topic of gays "marrying" - it is not going to happen

it cannot happen, until they can produce a child

Wow folks, talk about going off topic. How about the Mars Rover? Isn't that machine fantastic? And it's totally apolitical.

Have a great day, take it easy, it's not the end of the world and it certainly it's not worth a heart attack.

Once again, we get to experience the illogical and mental disorder of Canyonrat. I understand that you didn’t want him to win. I understand that you don’t share his values, but, wow. You must be smoking some pretty strong stuff. He won. Now, we will more than likely experience the real Code Pink Charlie. He will be dragging our citizens through a long and fraudulent recount. He will kick and scream like a baby (Canyonrat) and will detract from the work that is necessary. Why didn’t you have a problem with all of the money B. Hussein Obama received from outside of our country? He even received money from a terrorist organization. Does the word hypocrite mean anything to you?

Less than half of a percent difference? Sounds more like a Purple county than a Red one.

Both common_dense and patrick w/ the 50pt IQ score ask a lot of stupid questions and cough up a lot of garbage Fox News "facts". I have only 1 question: Is the process of elimination difficult for you two given the depth to which you have placed your heads up your alimentary canal? And I have just 1 fact for you: You two are idiots.

UhHuh, the "alimentary canal" starts with the mouth. I don't think you can stick your head in your mouth. Are you going for the other end?

Besides, why the need to be so angry? Don't hate just because someone doesn't agree with you. You'll just be mad all the time.

Loomisresident: I agree, lots of off topic here - but when Canyonrat tosses molotov talk-tales, I sometimes cannot resist responding.

and UhHuh just shows, again, the confrontational to violent nature of the American left

and rely on the old "but Fox, but Fox, but Fox" mantra

without perhaps ever watching anything on said network

and all the while forgetting that they have such noted libs as:

Greta Van Sustern, Susan Estrich, Juan Cole, Nina Totenberg, Shepard Smith, Alan Colmes and Geraldo (plus many others) as contributors, commentators or anchors.

name 4 bonsfide conservatives on any other net UhHuh

even all together there are not 4 ...........

here, have some Kool Aid

Commonsense: I know this is baffling, but I didn't voter for Obama or Brown. How much does the Republican Party pay you to tow the party line? Try thinking for yourself sometime. I can't imagine always agreeing with any one party all the time. I'm the Chairperson for the PFP of Placer County & even I disagree with my own party some of the time.

Excuse me, "vote", not "voter". My spelling is hit & miss today. Guess I need to keep an eye on my own spellchecker.

Thanks for all of the “facts” UhHuh. As usual, when you get spanked, you just resort to your old Liberal ways, hate. I get the feeling you have a problem with hemorrhoids or something to that effect. Steelybob, I think you will be surprised at the next election. This is still a red county. It is the Lib’s time, however, and many conservatives bought into the lies of Code Pink Charlie. Birchbriker: Just because I voted for Tom McClintock doesn’t mean I voted for every Republican. There are several Republicans that are against the Second Amendment. I would never consider voting for them. Even the NRA endorses many Democrats. Why would you just assume I or others vote right down party line?

Birchbricker:

not to worry about a misspelling like that, really.

You won't see me, or any other anti-liberal pick on you for that.

But I am not a typical Republican. I am an atheist conservative who is also pro-choice.

If you want a gun, it's your choice.

If you want to smoke at home, again, your choice.

You want an abortion for you or your gal, ok - but I think we all agree it's not a good choice.

If you want tp pray, fine and dandy, on your own time and place. Not in school, govt' or work.

And the only place I ever personally saw prayer in gov't or public school was under a democrat administration - namely Jimmy Carter. I also saw separate black AND white bathrooms and water fountains. So, if I were to toe the line, it certainly would not be with the democrat party.

Do I agree more with the Republican party, you betcha. Do I agree with everythnig they stand for, nope. But the democrats only stand for greed (see Clinton administration, Rubin stewardship_ and the Barney Frank House oversight of Wall Street (see race card) and look at people like Warren Buffett who got filthy rich from it. Then look at the average family farmer, businessman and working stiff. Backpedaling all the way.....Thanks democrats.

Thanks party of Lieutenant Charlie Brown, witness to mock hanging.

and two time loser.....

common_sense: You can call Brown a 2 time loser if you want--he came within 3% of beating entrenched Republican Doolittle in the last election. Now he came within less than half a percent against your savior McClintock--I wouldn't get too cocky about these election results.

Patrick50: What's your next excuse for the close election results; "The doggy ate my homework"?

Why all this hand-wringing? The guy won and it's not the end of the world!

In this last election some of the blue guys won, and some of the red guys won, and for people who voted third party, well, none of their guys won.

steelybob,

Come on, calm down pal. You're correct, Charlie Brown came very close to unseating John Doolittle in the previous election. That gave him much hope for success in the next campaign and he should have felt pretty good about his chances, especially with Doolittle out of the picture.

But this time he couldn't get past the "carpetbagger"! Now that's something to make a guy feel bad!

If Charlie Brown decides to pay for a recount and he ends up winning by some miracle, he should still be asking himself why he couldn't make this campaign a slam-dunk!

Steelybob,

That doesn’t even deserve a response. Grow up!

Patrick50: You come up with lame excuses why the vote was transparently thin, when the real reason is that this district isn't nearly as Conservative as was previously thought.

Steelybob:

The entire nation went left. After Nixon, the entire nation went left. After Carter, the entire nation went right. After twelve years of Republican Presidents, the entire nation went left. After Clinton, the entire nation went right. Do you see a pattern here? McClintock isn’t even well known in our district. Code Pink Charlie had to resort to portraying himself as a “conservative” Democrat. These are not excused; they are facts, something you are void of.

"Why would you just assume I or others vote right down party line?"

Well, Patty, probably because you just come off as a very simple-minded individual.

Phoenixsnow,

You have to be a Moron. I’ve already explained on this thread that I don’t vote down party line. Do you?
