The New Horseshoe Bar Grill was packed with well-wishers Thursday evening as proprietors Eppie G. Johnson and Richard A. Bruce hosted new and old friends at their upscale restaurant.
A lariat cutting by Loomis Mayor Russ Kelley and Councilmembers Rhonda Nelthorpe-Morillas, Tom Millward, Walt Scherer and Miguel Ucovich was followed by a ribbon cutting led by Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce president Leslie Griffith and a contingent of chamber members.
After Father Jim Retelas of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Sacramento conducted a blessing of the premises, Champagne and appetizers were served in the bar area of the newly redecorated restaurant.
Guests also sampled several tasty dishes. as well as mouth-watering desserts.

After looking forward to a mouth-watering lunch, my friend and I were quite disappointed. We ordered the halibut sandwich and were surprised by the breaded, deep-fried, quite small chunks of tasteless fish. The bread was dry, crumbly and cold. The sandwich came with fries and, again, a huge shock with the run-of-the-mill frozen, deep-fried potatoes. Hopefully, this is just growing pains and not a sign of what is to come!
Wow what a disappointment! I took my son and daughter-in-law to dinner for her birthday.... We were all excited! Short lived, however. The staff was very very nice - but the food and the service were horrible. I ordered FRESH halibut - I don't think so- it was breaded and obviously frozen. My son ordered a filet MEDIUM RARE - came to him well done.... My daughter-in-law ordered pressed chicken.... and she found it tasteless and DRY. I had been asked when I made the reservation if it was an occasion - I told them a birthday - ?????? Not even a dish of vanilla ice cream was offered.... Not a real problem - but WHY ASK??? Awful Awful Awful..... never will I return.... what a shame!
VERY DISAPPOINTED!! My husband and I went to the Horseshoe Bar and Grill for a date night without the kids for a nice quiet meal. Much to our surprise the food and service was mediocre at best. The bread that was brought to our table was stale; the Romaine lettuce in our Cesar salads were not trimmed properly, and the garnish on my husband’s steak was some sort of soggy deep fried carrots. For the prices we were expecting better. Not the case! We waited 35 minutes for our steaks, once we finally received our meals mine was not cooked properly, so I sent it back to have it redone. After another 30 minutes I received my meal properly cooked but I was eating alone, my husband had already finished with his meal. (He might as well have a warm meal) So much for having a nice meal with my husband as we ate separately An hour wait for a meal is just unacceptable The owner was there and aware of our problems but seem to blow it of like it was no big deal. He should learn some customer service skills. The wait staff doesn't work as a team and our waitress didn't seem to know what was going on around her and very much out of her element. We will never return.
